I’m Not Ashamed of God’s Power: Look at What God’s Doing, Not What I’m Doing
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
We
should all come here Sunday morning and we should open our Bibles every day
just simply because the Word of God is powerful. We shouldn’t need any other
reason. We should just be here because God’s Word is different. People were
flocking to Jesus’ preaching because he didn’t teach like the scribes. He
taught with authority. His word had power.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Being
a good husband, I tell my wife all my aches and pains. That’s what a good
husband does, right? And being a good wife, she tells me things I can do to
take care of it. But I don’t do it. Why not? Sinful pride. I don’t trust that
my wife knows what she’s talking about. Even though she usually does. And she’s
had a good laugh when it turns out someone else, like a doctor, for instance,
tells me to do the exact thing she said in the first place. Truth be told, I’ve
started to learn to actually do what she says.
This is the affliction that we sinners bring to the Word of God. This is the same thing we do to the Word of God. We don’t trust that He knows what He’s talking about. It’s sinful pride. His Word is a good word. Why don’t we do it? Why do people live together before they’re married and think it will be good for them? Why don’t we trust God’s Word? Why do people hold grudges instead of forgiving and think it’s good for them? Why don’t we trust God’s Word? Why do people not pray and not go to Church and think it doesn’t matter? Because we don’t trust God’s Word. His Word is a great Word. Why don’t we do it?
Epiphany 3 (Life Sunday)
Matthew 8:1-13

“Lord, We Are Not Worthy”
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
We celebrate Life Sunday every year in January, because 44 years ago, in January 1973, the United States Supreme Court made abortion legal. Since then, over 59 million babies have been murdered by abortion. However, Life Sunday isn’t, in any way, only about abortion. Life Sunday is a reminder to all of us Christians that every single life is worthy in God’s eyes. Every life. From a tiny embryo just conceived in the mother’s womb that you can barely even see—all the way to an elderly life barely hanging on at the very end. Every single one is worthy to live and worthy of our love. No matter if the life is small or great. No matter if the life is poor or rich. No matter if the life is super intelligent or has severe mental difficulties. No matter if the life is black or white or any other color. No matter if the life is male or female. All are equally worthy of life and equally worthy in God’s eyes. …
